Behind Office Doors: Bullying in the Workplace

Workplace bullying is a rising phenomenon across the United States and often times bullying is not equated with adults. The focus of this workshop is to understand workplace bullying. Participants will be able to identify behaviors associated with workplace bullying and recognize a hostile work environment. Participants will understand the impact of workplace bullying on targets and witnesses as well as the costs of bullying on the workplace environment. Participants will develop an understanding of strategies to cope with the workplace bully.

Jan C. Kircher, PhD, MSW received her PhD in Sociology in 2007, from South Dakota State University. She acquired her Master’s of Social Work, in December of 1995, from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She is a licensed social worker in the State of Iowa since 1997. At Park University, she is a faculty in the School of Social Work and currently holds the title of Director of Field Education/Assistant Professor of Social Work. She previously served as the Mediation Program Coordinator/Assistant Professor of Social Work at St. Cloud State University from 2008-2013. She served as the Program Director, Field Director, and Chair in the social work department at Northwestern College from 2001-2008. She has completed trainings on mediation, conflict coaching, and conflict resolution. Her research interests include parents and families with LGBT children, academic and workplace bullying, women in higher education and collaboration among academic and professional disciplines.

The University of Missouri, Missouri Institute of Mental Health will be responsible for this program and will maintain a record of your continuing education credits earned. MIMH will award 1 clock hour or 1.2 contact hours (.1 CEU) for this program. MIMH credit will fulfill Clinical Social Work and Psychologist licensure requirements in the State of Missouri. Attendees with licensure from other states are responsible for seeking appropriate continuing education credit, from their respective boards for completing this program.
